The traditional definition of a gentleman is "a civilized, educated, sensitive, or well-mannered man." I would add that gentlemen are also chivalrous, courteous, and honorable.


We all understand (or at least I believe we do) what it means to be courteous. But what does it mean to be a chivalrous or honorable man? And more importantly how does society today depict a gentleman?

For quite some time, I've seen the traditional definition of a gentleman become twisted into something it was never meant to be. To see evidence of this, simply search Instagram for #gentleman and you'll see what I mean. What you'll find are a myriad of examples of men who dress extremely well, are physically fit, drive expensive automobiles and surround themselves with scantily clad women.

My personal definition of a gentleman is quite different than what is frequently seen in today's society. Throughout this blog we'll discuss what it looks like to aspire to be a gentleman of chivalry, honor, courtesy and integrity.

I would be remiss if I didn't also spend some time on the ladies as well, as I believe that women of today still want a gentleman. No gentleman's blog would be complete without some talk about bourbon, cigars, and classic male style, so stay tuned for my musings on those, my other favorite subjects.
